OTTAWA, April 11, 2008—Environment Minister John Baird was on hand during National Wildlife Week at Pinecrest Public School to help launch the latest video, “Pollinators — Busy Doing What?”, in the wildly successful Hinterland Who’s Who series.

Until now HWW videos have been 30 and 60 seconds long — the length of an average television commercial. But because video is no longer limited to just television, and thanks to the launch of “Hinterland Who’s WhoTube,” kids can learn even more about Canada’s wildlife. Longer videos have been developed and provide even more wildlife information for kids — and adults — to watch on the web at tv.hww.ca.

Pinecrest Public School in Ottawa, Ontario is doing more than its fair share for the environment. From habitat conservation to worm composting, this school knows how to make a difference for wildlife! Principal Charles Austin attributes his school’s environmental conscience to the enthusiasm of his teachers. “The Hinterland Who’s Who presents a non-traditional learning resource for our children and a valuable resource for our teachers,” says Principal Austin. “When children are able to engage on their own, away from a classroom, there’s no question that a strong connection has been made.”

Hinterland Who’s Who is a joint project of the Environment Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation. HWW’s goal is to reach as many Canadians as possible and encourage them to take action to conserve wildlife. Increasingly, Canadians not only want to learn about nature, but also want to understand how each of us can play a part in preserving it.

“I'm proud of the important action Pinecrest Public School has taken to protect our species and spaces. This young generation is making a connection with wildlife and ensuring a brighter future for Canada’s wildlife,” says CWF’s Executive Vice President Wade Luzny. “The Hinterland Who’s Who videos drive a simple and important conservation message — what we choose to do and what we choose not to do has an impact; we can all make a difference. Through programs like the HWW and NWW the Canadian Wildlife Federation provides the tools for all Canadians to make a difference.”
